art talk: Shanghai Power Station

Saturday, December 20. A huge chimney marks the site of the Shanghai Power Station of Art (上海当代艺术博物馆), the site of the 2014 Shanghai Biennale and the second of four “How to Apply for International Artists Residencies” talks. Our improvised presentation space on the fifth floor of the former power station suddenly filled with artists from all walks of life. Janet Fong (Fang Ming’er) shared her knowledge about residency projects around the world, I sang the MFAB gospel, artist Cheng Ran gently introduced his two year Rijksakademie residency experience in the Netherlands, and artist Zheng Yue gave a quick peek at the four contracts which were the result of his NYC Klein-Sun Gallery Residency. We were pleasantly mobbed with questions from young artists, gallery assistants and project organizers.
